Hello, my name is David M Dickson, founder of ADA Homes Sold Denver at Keller Williams, DTC. By ten months of age I had developed Hydrocephalus, a neurological disorder caused by the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain cavities. The excess fluid caused harmful pressure and an environment in my skull that lead to a Tonic Clonic (Grand Mal) Seizure. A craniotomy was performed to drain fluid and release pressure. Craniotomies are notorious for heavy bleeding, which is believed to be the origin of my Superficial Siderosis.
I was fortunate to lead a relatively low symptom childhood without seizures. Later, I went to work in an upscale restaurant, where I quickly discovered my people skills and attention to detail were a winning combination for delivering a top notch fine-dining experience. I enjoyed a decade-long career in world-class restaurants, including Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
In my late teens and early twenties, I developed a love for the gym I maintain today, despite health challenges. I have learned my personal expectations can be achieved through DEDICATION AND PERSEVERANCE.
I applied my experience from a successful service career, along with my work ethic, to Mortgage Banking. In 2002, I experienced a seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy, which initiated a long and uneasy medical journey that shapes my life today.
I was diagnosed with Superficial Siderosis (www.livingwithss.com) in July, 2017. Symptoms include: unilateral hearing loss, ringing in my ears (Tinnitus), mild tremors, disturbed balance, and slurred speech. Escalating problems with my balance led to owning a manual wheelchair.
I live the challenges of wheelchair use. I also know it doesn’t have to be a barrier to achieving your home ownership goals. I have vetted resources and cultivated a network to serve your needs – whether that is finding the right home, or making home modifications – you can count on the same service that has been a benchmark of my career.
I have a passion for bringing awareness of the diseases and medical challenges many of us are facing, so I remain active in different roles with several nonprofits including Parkinson's Association of The Rockies (2023 Volunteer of the Year), National MS Society, Colorado Rare Disease Advisory Council (RDAC), Superficial Siderosis Research Alliance, and Board Member with Spina Bifida Association of Colorado, (SBCO).
